Arts Award

Arts Award is a nationally recognised qualification for young people aged between 11 and 25.  Arts Award can be based around any arts or media activity, and can be complete it in a wide variety of settings – like youth clubs, arts centres, schools, colleges, theatres or community groups.

Arts Award is offered at three levels Bronze, Silver and Gold. 

Taking Part:

Arts Centre Washington offers a number of ways for young people to take part in the arts.

Including drama, music, visual arts, dance and media.

Enjoying and Appreciating

We can offer Venue tours, gallery talks and opportunities to meet the artists.  Discounted tickets for selected events and performances can be offered to Arts Award students.

Leadership / apprenticeships

Work Placements: Each year the arts centre provides work experience placements for students. Priority is given to Arts Award students.

Volunteering:

The arts centre has a volunteer programme and now has volunteers at most of its live events.

Meeting Arts Professionals

Opportunities are regularly available for young people to meet arts professionals. Including musicians, actors, dancers, authors, curators…

Events often include pre or post-show discussions with professional composers, actors, dancers or directors, which would be open to Arts Award students.

Showcasing Your Work

The Youth Arts Exhibition is part of the city’s highly acclaimed Young Achievers Awards which is now in its 17th year.  Young people aged 11 to 20 are invited to submit their artwork. Past exhibitions have received a massive response including paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and film.

The first MoveIT Youth Dance festival took place on 31 March 2011 and showcased dances from 7 youth dance groups from the Washington and Sunderland area.

The centre is also a hub for other community youth arts projects who are able to hire our performance spaces.
