Washington Theatre
Group
The Washington Theatre Group has
been running for over 30 years now. It
was originally based at 'Washington
School' and was called the 'Geordie
Theatre Group'. It was first formed in
1976 and moved to the 'Art Centre
Washington' when it opened in 1977, and
was renamed the Washington Theatre
Group.
Its members meet at the Washington
Arts Centre every Thursday at 7.30pm
till 9.30pm. Recent shows have included
A Night of Horror, pantomimes such as
Peter
Pan-tomime (2006) and Cinderella (2007).
Other shows have been fables, comedies,
serious drama and murder mysteries.
Everyone in the group is encouraged
to have a go at whatever aspect of the
theatre they are interested in, from
acting to set building, from directing,
producing, scriptwriting to technical,
music and costume making. But what is
most important is that we have fun and
work well as a team, not just for its
members but to perform a good show for
the its audience and the community
