World Edda: Njörðr - Tim Brennan

25 June 2016 - 10 September 2016

Sunderland-born Tim Brennan creates both painterly poems and poetic images. His work reflects on what it means to have a ‘sense of place’ in the most profound ways – to be a part of a shared political history with others and to ‘see the world’ in a particular way. Similarly, Brennan’s magnificent landscape photographs reveal the colours of light all around us at 55’ north. They are taken on the simplest of devices – an ordinary mobile phone – but provide glimpses into what we ordinarily lose sight of.

Barrie West and Stephanie Smith, plus the help of 19 poets, have collaborated in a monumental exploration of man’s inhumanity towards man and the lessons which must be learnt. West constructs a four wall installation.

‘Flesh’ – A mixed media series by Ashleigh Swain

10 December 2016 - 28 January 2017

Upstairs in the Granary
‘Flesh’ is an exhibition of mixed media works by eighteen-year-old Ashleigh Swain from Sunderland
The series ‘flesh’ started when I was exploring different ideas for my next project, however after education I have still carried on the series, I enjoyed the interesting aspects of creating mixed media pieces such as sculptures and paintings about our own bodies and the flesh that coats our bodies from birth to death. The series includes paintings and sculptures exploring all aspects of flesh such as tones and form.
